Mr Cub, Ernie Banks, crosses home plate after hitting his 24th homer of the season and 400th of his career against the Cardinals starting pitcher Curt Simmons. The three-run blast scoring Billy Williams and Ron Santo gave the Cubs a 4-0 lead as they would hold on the rest the way for a 5-3 win. Banks would hit his 500th home run on May 12, 1970 against the Braves Pat Jarvis and his final home run (512) off of Reds pitcher Jim McGlothin on August 18, 1971.

During his illustrious career, Banks would hit 40+ home runs in a season five times including fours years in a row from 1957 through 1960. He also lead the majors in dingers in 1958 and 1960.

Greeting Banks at home plate is Ron Santo (#10) and Billy Williams (#26). The home plate umpire is Al Forman. Attendance for the game was just 5,014.
