Two of the NFL powerhouses, the Green Bay Packers (8-1) and Chicago Bears (8-1) meet up for the second time in a very crucial match in the 1963 NFL season. The Bears already had handed the Packers their only loss of the season in the first week with a 10-3 win at New City Stadium (known today as Lambeau Field). That day the Bears defense was forefront holding the formidable Packers offense to 150 total yards.

The Packers coming into Wrigley Field had high hopes of some revenge and also to take charge of the West Division putting distance between themselves and the Bears, all without their star quarterback Bart Starr, who injured his hand back in October. But once again the Bears dominant defense would destroy the Packers offense and intercept their backup passers five times in a 26-7 rout. The Bears running game would run rampant the whole afternoon gaining 248 yards on the ground.

The win would propel the Bears the rest of the season and right into the NFL Championship game against the New York Giants, where their defense once again was the top story intercepting Y.A. Tittle five times in a 14-10 win.

As far Wrigley Field and it’s professional football background, they hosted the Bears for 50 years from 1921 through 1970. They also were home to the Chicago Cardinals (1931-1939) and the Chicago Tigers of the American Professional Football Association (APFA) for one year in 1920.
