The Babe Down for the Count!
Here’s a beautiful colorization by my friend Don Stokes. It’s the Babe down and out after crashing into the outfield wall at Griffith Stadium in Washington in a game against the Senators.Looks like he’s out cold!
Standing on the left looking down at his teammate is Aaron Ward. Bob Meusel is barely visible sitting on the right watching the scene. Standing on the right is Washington player Nemo Leibold. Yankee trainer Doc Woods attends the Babe at his foot, while Senators’ trainer Doc Martin is at his head. One of the vendors is also at the scene in the middle, having just put his wares down next to Meusel. Barely visible behind Doc Woods is Yankee Whitey Witt. Looks like the two ushers are trying to keep the curious crowd in order!
If anyone can add any other details to this game, please feel free to do so. And while you’re at it don’t forget to visit Don Stokes Face Book page to see all his wonderful colorizations (link below).
