This classic baseball cathedral has been home to five professional football teams, but none of the teams called Fenway Park home any longer than six years and that team was their most recent football tenant, the Boston Patriots, who moved in from Nickerson Field before the 1963 season. The Patriots only stayed there till 1968 when they moved to Alumni Stadium, home to Boston College.
Before the Patriots here is the list of the other professional football teams to play at Fenway Park:
Boston Bulldogs (AFL) (1926)
Boston Redskins (NFL) (1933–1936)
Boston Shamrocks (AFL) (1936–1937)
Boston Yanks (NFL) (1944–1948)
And in this photo you can see the temporary bleachers stationed in front of the Green Monster. Both teams were also positioned on the same side of the field on the bleacher side, the seats along the first base side would have been obstructed since they didn’t rise high off the ground.
One way to confirm that the year of this photo is 1963 is in the background, you can see Prudential Tower near completion, and we know it was opened in 1964.
On December 1, 1968, the last professional football game was played at Fenway Park when the Patriots crushed the Cincinnati Bengals 33-14 in front of 17,796.
