Comiskey Park, October 7, 1917 – In Game Two of the 1917 World Series the New York Giants Heinie Zimmerman is thrown out at first base after hitting a ground ball to Chicago White Sox pitcher Red Faber to end the top of the 3rd inning. The White Sox would go on to win the game 7-2 and eventually the Series in six games for their second World Championship.
Don Stokes helped me with some detective work using the scoreboard as help because all we knew about this wonderful action photo it was a play in Game Two of the 1917 World Series. MLB Historian John Thorn was good enough to confirm we had the right play pinned down.
