Red Sox great Ted Williams is attended to after getting knocked out colliding with teammate Doc Cramer in the 8th inning of the first game of a doubleheader. The two crashed together going after a long flyball hit by the Indians’ Ray Mack. Williams would be able to walk off on his own but would be required to spend the night in observation at a Cleveland hospital. Cramer would be fine and finished the game
Boston would go on to lose the first game to the Indians 4-1 but would rebound in the nightcap without Williams winning 2-0 and breaking a seven-game losing streak.
Williams would return to the Red Sox lineup on June 28th, missing three games of action. In his first game after the scary collision he would go 0 for 4 but the next day Williams was back to his old self, going 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs.
