This photo was taken in 1931 right before its completion. The capacious ballpark was one of the first multi-purpose stadiums, designed for baseball and football as it was also one of the largest built holding up to 80,000+ for both sports.On September 12, 1954 when the Indians hosted the Yankees a then record largest regular season crowd of 86,563 came to see the Indians win 3-2.

The Indians didn’t start playing at the new colossal stadium until 1932 and it was still on and off as they played most of their home games at League Park. But in 1947 they moved permanently into Cleveland Municipal Stadium until 1993, when they took home at Jacobs Field, now known as Progressive Field.
