In 1962 the city of Houston broke ground on the first domed stadium of its kind and was finished in November 1964 – six months ahead of schedule. It opened on April 9, 1965 when the Houston Astros hosted the NY Yankees in an exhibition game in front of a sold out crowd of 47,000 plus.
