This is one of my favorite photos that I have posted before of this iconic ballpark from the Steel City. In a few days I will post a photo of the 1903 World Series being played here and as the case on Saturdays, I like to post aerials of sometimes gone but never forgotten ballparks.
Originally built for the Pittsburg Burghers of the newly formed Players League in 1890, the ballpark quickly became vacant when the rookie league folded after just one year. Just as quickly, the Pirates moved into Exposition Park the following year (1891), where they stayed until 1909 when they moved to Forbes Field. In 1915, after being sparingly used for semi-pro baseball games and football, Exposition Park was demolished.
Take note of Exposition Hall across the Allegheny River and in the foreground, where ice hockey was played at the Winter Gardens and the wooden roller coaster to its left.
