An aerial view of a playoff game between the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers. Last week we brought you the second game played at the Polo Grounds, a 10-0 rout won by the Dodgers, today It’s the first game of the best out of three playoffs.

This all started after the Giants came back from 12.5 on August 10th to tie the Dodgers for first place. First game at Ebbets Field and then the next two at the Giants home park, the great Polo Grounds.

In this game one, the Giants’ Bobby Thomson hit a home run and the Dodgers’ Ralph Branca took the loss – a recurring theme we would see again – in New York’s 3-1 win. All the runs in the game came courtesy of the home run. Andy Pafko hit one in the second inning to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead, then Thomson’s 2-run blast gave the Giants a 2-1 lead in the fourth. In the seventh, Monte Irvin went yard for the insurance run. From there on pitcher Jim Hearn shut down the Dodgers for the complete game win.
