New Blog Topic: It’s Time for Another Quiz!

My quiz from last week about the “Mystery Person” peering out the window of the Polo Grounds clubhouse while Willie Mays made his famous catch (it was Joe Garagiola) went over so well, that I’m back for more this week!

Some of you know that I’m a real sucker for old-timers’ photos – I love ’em! – so I’ve got a real good one today that we can have some fun with. It’ll really test your knowledge. 

So here’s your challenge:

1. Name all the former ballplayers in this photo. In addition, try to match each one up with the clue given below.

Here are some clues:

They are all in the Hall of Fame. 

One is the all-time batting average leader with .366.

One was killed in a car crash in 1988.

One was known as the “Mechanical Man.”

One was the manager of the 1935 World Series champion Tigers.

One had his #8 retired by the Yankees.

One was the manager of the “Gas House gang.”

One led the NL in K’s seven consecutive years.

One won the pitching Triple Crown two times.

One was a 3x AL MVP and retired with 534 home runs.

One is the White Sox franchise leader in wins.

One holds the major league record for doubles with 792.

One was known as “Big Poison” and had a .333 career average.

One was a great defensive catcher who holds the record for most steals by a catcher with 177.
