The great Hank Greenberg is still hitting them out of the ballpark as the 1946 season comes to a close. Here Greenberg rounds third base after walloping his 43rd homer of the season to give the Tigers an early 2-0 lead in the fourth inning against the St Louis Browns. Later in the game Hammerin’ Hank would again go long with his 44th and final homer of the season as the Tigers would go on to defeat the Browns 6-3. The 44 home runs would be good enough to lead the Majors as were Hank’s 127 RBIs.
Only 4,461 were on hand for a game that took just one hour and 41 minutes to play. Despite the Tigers fine record of 91-60 they unfortunately were 12 games behind the first-place Boston Red Sox, which would explain the lack of interest from the Tigers faithful.
Great one, Gary!
