Here’s Another Interesting Video: Old Ball Parks!
Some of you will remember my recent post showing Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig taking batting practice in 1931. Since that one was so well received by the readers, I thought I’d post another.
Thanks to Bill Gutman for sending this one my way. It’s a 6 minute clip highlighting some of the old ball parks. (My partner Ron is the “Old Ball Parks Guru” around here, not me; but I thought I’d go ahead with this one anyway).

The clip features some interesting footage from one of baseball’s truly Golden Ages, the 1950’s, including old Comiskey Park, Ebbets Field , The Polo Grounds, Sportsman’s Park, Shibe Park, Municipal Stadium, Griffith Stadium, Forbes Field, Crosley Field, and Tiger Stadium. Not sure what year this was produced, but I’d guess it’s from the 1970’s.
The featured photo is a beautiful aerial shot of Fenway Park.
As some of the commentators mention, these were the neighborhood parks with each one having intimate appeal and a unique charm of its own. Fans were right on top of the action; and in many cases, they actually got to know the players as they passed through the stands on their way onto the field.
The only old intimate parks still in existence are Wrigley Field and Fenway Park. No question that baseball lost a large part of its character when these great old parks came down.
Anyway, thought you might enjoy seeing this short clip.
