Forbes Field, 1960 World Series
A little research shows this is probably Game One, bottom of the first inning. Clemente, who reached with a single, is the runner on first. His hit drove in Bob Skinner with the third Pirates’ run of the inning. Smokey Burgess is at the plate. The first baseman is Bill “Moose” Skowron, and the catcher is Yogi Berra. The first base coach is Mickey Vernon. The home plate umpire is Dusty Boggess – a name all us older guys remember well! Not visible is Yankee pitcher Jim Coates, who had just relieved starter Art Ditmar.
The Pirates won this game, 6-4, in route to their 4-3 World Series victory, capped by Bill Mazeroski’s historic walk-off home run.
Tom says he uses this great photo as his screensaver. That’s not a bad idea for all you Pirate fans out there!
